Biography
Described as having a voice like "warm milk" and "velvet steel," mezzo-soprano Amanda Sindel-Keswick has been in love with the stage since starring in her kindergarten production of Hats for Sale in her hometown of Bath, Maine. Since then, she has had much success performing both domestically and abroad.
Amanda was recently seen as Teresa in Promenade Opera Project’s La Sonnambula.
She joined Opera del West for three seasons, singing Vanderdendur and covering the Old Lady in their production of Candide in August 2018. Past performances with this company have included covering Ruggiero in Alcina and singing the role of The Notary in Don Pasquale. In the Boston area, she has also sung with MetroWest Opera, The NEMPAC Opera Project, Lowell House Opera, Opera Brittenica, and the MetroWest Choral Artists.
Elsewhere, she has sung the roles of Nireno and La Badessa with the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater's productions of Giulio Cesare and Suor Angelica, respectively. She sang Marcellina with the Tuscia Operafestival in Viterbo, Italy and covered Bianca in The Rape of Lucretia with Opera On the Avalon in Newfoundland.
Amanda was a founding member and president of Triad: Boston's Choral Collective, a chamber choir of singers, composers, and conductors that performs music written within the past 25 years. She has been a Triad soloist, choir member, conductor, and president.
When not on the stage, Amanda is a longtime cantor at Catholic services, currently singing at a church in Roslindale, MA, where she also directs the adult choir. For several years, she taught popular singing classes at Arlington Community Education, including classes in the basics of singing, singing in parts, and the fundamentals of reading music.
Amanda holds an M.M. from the Longy School of Music and a B.A. from Boston College. She was a longtime student of Robert Honeysucker and studies with Kerry Deal. She resides in Cambridge, MA, with her husband and son. She is taking a step back from performing while pursuing a law degree.
